Civil Engineer - Success Profile

Reporting to: Infrastructure Manager

Division / Function: SME / IFS

Base location: MELABS, Dubai, UAE

Key purpose

The purpose of this position is to supervise Base Operations services including:
  • Infrastructure Utilities Management and Operations;
  • Planned and Reactive Maintenance tasks;
  • Minor New Works &
  • Projects
This includes achievement of contractual and internal targets for quality, safety, operations, service reliability,

achievement of customer service standards, supervision of subcontractors and staff working within Base Operations.

Reason for role

Provide managerial, technical, and engineering expertise in all functionality of the building fabric, leading and guiding teams in carrying out the operation and maintenance within the property.

The Civil Engineer will report to Infrastructure Manager

Based on the specific requirement of the role

Key accountabilities
  • Support the Project Manager and have responsibility for ensuring the projects team deliver the projects within budget, time, quality and with zero harm.
  • Support the maintenance Infrastructure Manager activities of the department, by providing supervision of engineering knowledge and advice, associated with the full range of building fabric issues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the SOPs to ensure their currency and efficacy.
  • Assist in the management of the quality and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) systems supporting the delivery of the Base Operations services.
  • Control and supervise the work of specialist, contractors and in-house staff on building services projects and maintenance issues.
  • Meeting the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all Base Operations services of the contract.
  • Have responsibility for the delivery of planned and reactive tasks in accordance with the Service Level Specification requirements.
  • Continue development of the 5 Year and Building Life-Cycle Plan and Energy Management Plans.
  • Provide analysis and comment technically upon maintenance feedback from both in-house, specialist service partners and client.
  • Highly motivated and flexible to work in a time-sensitive environment to respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and demonstrated ability to implement risk management processes and procedures.
  • Understand the reactive and planned maintenance requirements of the buildings fabric, structures. The post holder will be responsible for where appropriate, the, health, safety and welfare matters affecting his team of technicians This will include safe systems of work, training and safety inspections and regular toolbox.
  • Maybe required to undertake shift work and call outs.
  • Other tasks as directed by Head of Base Operations or Contract Manager
Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications
  • Must hold a Diploma in a Civil engineering or qualification of equal or greater notoriety
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role within a large complex service organisation within the UAE.
  • High knowledge in reading design technical drawings and design calculations
  • Experience of direct line management of staff.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • IT skills including – Microsoft Project Management, AutoCAD and CAFM will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Sound interpersonal influencing and communication skills able to develop and motivate others
